이방인을 사랑하라 Love the Stranger

거류민을……자기같이 사랑하라 너희도 애굽 땅에서 거류민이 되었었느니라 [레위기 19:34]

Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. Leviticus 19:34

하나님은 이스라엘 백성들이 번창하도록 율법의 토대를 세우시면서, 그들 자신도 전에 이방인이었기에 그들 또한 이방인들을 환대해야 한다고 일깨워주셨습니다 (레위기 19:34). 그들은 이방인들에게 친절하게 대해야 할 뿐 아니라 “[자신들] 같이 사랑해야”(34절) 했습니다. 하나님은 그들을 애굽의 압제로부터 구하셨고, “젖과 꿀이 흐르는” 땅에 거하게 하셨습니다(출애굽기 3:17). 하나님은 이스라엘 민족이 그 땅에 함께 거주하게 된 이방인들을 사랑하기를 원하셨습니다.

In setting out the laws that would allow His people to flourish, He reminded them to welcome foreigners because they themselves were once foreigners (Leviticus 19:34). Not only were they to treat strangers with kindness (v. 33), but they were also to “love them as [themselves]” (v. 34). God had rescued them from oppression in Egypt, giving them a home in a land “flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:17). He expected His people to love others who also made their home there.
