A Friend In Failure 실패 속에서의 친구

인간은 때로 실수하고 실패합니다. 마가는 젊었을 때 선교여행 중에 바울과 바나바를 떠나 “그들과 함께 일하러 가지 않았다”고 성경은 말합니다. 이 때문에 다음 선교여행에서 “바울은 그를 데리고 가는 것이 옳지 않다”고 했고(사도행전 15:38), 바나바와 심한 의견 충돌을 빚었습니다. 마가는 초기의 실패에도 불구하고 여러 해 후에 놀라운 모습으로 다시 등장합니다. 바울은 인생 후반에 감옥에서 외롭게 지낼 때 마가를 데려오기를 요청하며 그가 “나의 일에 유익하다”(디모데후서 4:11)고 했습니다. 하나님은 마가에게 그의 이름을 딴 복음서를 쓰도록 영감을 주시기도 했습니다.

하나님은 우리의 실수나 실패를 우리 혼자 감당하도록 내버려두시지 않는다는 것을 마가의 삶을 통해 보여주십니다. 우리에게는 우리의 실수보다 더 위대한 친구이신 주님이 있습니다. 우리가 구주를 따를 때, 주님은 우리에게 필요한 도움과 힘을 제공해주실 것입니다.


To err is human—we all fail sometimes. Scripture tells us that young Mark walked away from Paul and Barnabas on a missionary trip “and had not continued with them in the work.” Because of this, “Paul did not think it wise to take him” on his next trip (Acts 15:38), which resulted in a strong disagreement with Barnabas. But in spite of his initial failings, Mark shows up years later in surprising ways. When Paul was lonely and in prison toward the end of his life, he asked for Mark and called him “helpful to me in my ministry” (2 Timothy 4:11). God even inspired Mark to write the gospel that bears his name.

Mark’s life shows us that God won’t leave us to face our errors and failures alone. We have a Friend who’s greater than every mistake. As we follow our Savior, He’ll provide the help and strength we need.-JAMES BANKS
